Granada Province and Zhengzhou City held their first coordination meeting on 22 December within the framework of the International Urban and Regional Cooperation Programme (IURC), marking the start of discussions on potential areas of collaboration and the development of a future partnership. The online meeting brought together representatives from both sides to exchange regional profiles, strategic priorities, and initial ideas for cooperation.
Representatives from Granada Province presented the province’s rich cultural heritage, diverse geography, and strong academic and research ecosystem, with particular emphasis on the role of the University of Granada. They outlined Granada’s ongoing sustainable development initiatives, including its urban and rural agendas, the Impronta Granada programme, and the Granada Health Training Park. These initiatives were highlighted as examples of integrated territorial development and innovation, as well as a basis for positioning Granada as a potential gateway for European agricultural products to international markets.

The delegation from Zhengzhou City provided an overview of the city’s development trajectory, describing Zhengzhou as a rapidly growing metropolitan hub that combines deep historical roots with modern infrastructure and strong logistics connectivity. Officials highlighted Zhengzhou’s economic priorities, experience in international cooperation, and ongoing tourism development initiatives. They expressed strong interest in expanding collaboration with Granada, particularly in the areas of tourism promotion and agricultural exchange, and formally invited representatives from Granada Province to visit Zhengzhou to explore opportunities on the ground.

During the discussion, both sides identified tourism and agriculture as priority thematic areas for initial cooperation. Potential next steps include joint promotion of tourism assets, exchanges on sustainable and innovative agricultural practices, and the sharing of policy approaches and project experiences. The partners agreed to maintain close communication, exchange relevant documentation, and support mutual visibility by promoting each other’s initiatives through their respective platforms.
The meeting concluded with a shared intention to reconvene in January 2026 to further advance discussions, refine areas of collaboration, and explore the development of pilot activities under the IURC framework, laying the groundwork for a structured and long-term partnership.
