Since 2017, the International Urban and Regional Cooperation North America (IURC NA) programme has fostered cooperation, mutual learning, and practical action between regions and cities in the EU, Canada and the USA. This final publication of the programme’s third phase (2021–2025) showcases how participating cities have collaborated to advance sustainability goals and shares best practices across four thematic areas: circular economy and waste management; urban planning; sustainable urban mobility and transport; and nature-based solutions.
Funded and managed by the European Union, with guidance from the EU Delegations in Canada and the United States, the IURC NA has demonstrated the value of international collaboration in addressing complex urban challenges. Throughout this phase, local governments, technical experts, institutions, and strategic partners have worked together and delivered tangible results.
More than a summary of activities and results, this eBook reflects a shared effort to build partnerships, exchange knowledge, and support the development of more sustainable, resilient, and innovative cities across the Atlantic.
We thank all participating cities, technical teams, institutional partners, and stakeholders for their leadership, commitment, and willingness to share expertise, which have been central to programme’s success.
As IURC NA concludes, its legacy continues through the EU Cities Gateway.
This publication stands as both a record of impact and a source of inspiration for the next stage of global urban cooperation.
Thank you for being part of this journey!
