Advancing Just Transition through Regional Knowledge Exchange: IURC CoP 4 Meeting

The IURC Community of Practice on Just Transition & Low-carbon Technologies (CoP 4) meeting was held on February 19, where participating regions highlighted a shared challenge in advancing a just transition through knowledge exchange.

Lodzkie Presents EU Study Visit on Workforce and Social Transition

Lodzkie (Poland) presented its plan to host a study visit to the EU region, tentatively scheduled for October or November. The region proposed three core components for the visit.

First, academic cooperation activities are planned with Lodz University of Technology. Participants will also be invited to join a guided tour introducing the city’s industrial history and its transition from traditional industries to new economic sectors.

Second, participants will visit the Lodz Special Economic Zone to learn about regional economic development strategies and explore opportunities for cooperation with local stakeholders.

In addition, the visit will include meetings with citizens, employment offices, and trade unions to discuss the social dimension of transition.

Chungcheongnam-do Proposes Study Visit Linked to Carbon Neutrality Conference

Chungcheongnam-do (Republic of Korea) introduced its proposal to host a study visit aligned with the 10th Chungnam International Carbon Neutrality Conference in October.

By linking the study visit with the international conference, the region aims to maximise the benefits of the visit by enabling participants to interact with a wider range of stakeholders.

Jeollanam-do Highlights Energy Innovation Sites

Jeollanam-do also presented its proposed study visit, focusing on key energy innovation sites across the region. The visit will include locations such as the Green Energy Institute in Mokpo, offering insights into local renewable energy initiatives.

An R&D tour is planned to begin in Naju, home to Korea Energy Valley, where participants will visit the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) and learn about the region’s energy cluster.

The visit will also include the Korea Institute of Energy Technology (KENTECH), which will serve as a platform for research exchange and technology workshops among participating cities and institutions.

While Bremen (Germany) noted that exchanges of ideas among cities have already taken shape, the meeting marked an important step toward defining concrete study visit plans, strengthening international cooperation to address shared challenges in advancing a just transition.
