IURC CoP 4 Strengthens Cooperation on Just Transition and Study Visits

Categorized as News from Asia & Australasia, Urban Innovation

Representatives from the IURC Community of Practice on Just Transition & Low-carbon Technologies (CoP 4) convened an online meeting on March 5 to discuss upcoming study visits and explore opportunities for future joint initiatives.

Maximizing International Opportunities Through Study Visits

Participants confirmed that the next study visit will take place in October, aligning with the 10th Chungnam International Carbon Neutrality Conference. By coordinating the visit with the international conference, this study visit aims to provide participants with broader opportunities to facilitate engagement with a wider range of international stakeholders.

During the meeting, members also explored potential opportunities for future exchanges. Gippsland (Australia) suggested the possibility of hosting a study visit in August, which could coincide with a major regional energy conference that typically attracts more than 800 participants from government, industry, and research sectors.

Exploring Ways to Inform Future Cooperation Frameworks

Beyond the organization of study visits, participants discussed how the cooperation could evolve into more structured initiatives supported by external funding.

As part of this discussion, members proposed organizing a “final reflection on pilot projects and preparation for future funding” session. This activity would include a reflection session with participating members to identify priority action areas and the possible development of a pilot project or preparation of a funding application.

Participants also noted that such discussions could help inform the development of future frameworks, including potential KPIs, and toolkits, to support the long-term implementation.

Opportunities for Engagement at the World Cities Summit

The meeting also highlighted the World Cities Summit 2026, which will take place in Singapore. The summit serves as a global platform where government leaders and industry experts discuss solutions for liveable and sustainable cities.

Members were encouraged to participate in the summit, with technical officers also invited to attend. This event could provide a valuable opportunity for in-person discussions among CoP members.

Through these discussions, the meeting marked an important step in advancing international cooperation on just transition and low-carbon technologies, while exploring practical pathways to transform knowledge exchange into future collaborative initiatives.
