Across Europe and Latin America, regions are working together to advance more sustainable, resilient and innovative agri-food systems.
Through the IURC Latin America and the Caribbean programme, these territories collaborate within the Community of Practice on Smart Agri-Food to exchange knowledge, address shared challenges and explore solutions linked to bioeconomy, food security, sustainable agriculture and territorial development. These are the six regions of this CoP:
Mendoza | Argentina
🏙️ 2 m inhabitants | 🗺️ 148,827km2 of territory
Mendoza is an internationally recognised region for its viticulture and food production, alongside a strong agri-food sector. The region promotes sustainable agriculture, value-chain innovation and climate adaptation linked to export-oriented growth.
Rio Minho | Portugal/Spain
A cross-border territory characterised by cooperation in territorial development, environmental management and economic integration.


Amazonas | Colombia
🏙️ 880 k inhabitants | 🗺️ 109,665 km2 of territory
Amazonas is a border territory with a strong agri-food and bioeconomy focus, linked to biodiversity, indigenous knowledge and sustainable land use. Strategies address remoteness, resilience and environmental protection.
Loreto | Peru
🏙️ 1.1 m inhabitants | 🗺️ 368,852 km2 of territory
A border territory in the Amazon basin, Loreto is focused on agri-food systems, bioeconomy and sustainable resource management. All while finding a balance between economic development and biodiversity conservation.


Bozen (South Tyrol) | Italy
🏙️ 531 k inhabitants | 🗺️ 7,398 km2 of territory
Bozen (South Tyrol) is an autonomous territory with strong governance and sustainability policies, particularly in energy, mobility and mountain territories.
Tacna | Peru
🏙️ 370 k inhabitants | 🗺️ 16,327 km2 of territory
Tacna is a border territory with an agri-food focus shaped by cross-border dynamics and water scarcity. The region promotes sustainable agriculture, food security and territorial resilience.
