Jeonju’s presentation highlighting its heritage-led smart tourism strategies at the IURC CoP 3 session has been featured in Korean local media.

Jeonju City and the Jeonju Research Institute held an international online seminar with the European Union (EU) on June 30, sharing Jeonju’s flagship tourism policies with partner cities from around the world.
The seminar was organized as part of the International Urban and Regional Cooperation (IURC) programme, which promotes the exchange of policies and experiences among cities in Europe and Asia on tourism, digital technologies, and urban innovation.
Jeonju is currently participating in the IURC programme as a partner city under the Sustainable Tourism thematic area. During the seminar, the Jeonju Research Institute, the Jeonju Tourism Organization, and the city’s New Growth Industry Division jointly introduced Jeonju’s tourism initiatives.
The presentations focused on three key topics:
- Heritage-based tourism policies that encourage longer visitor stays by leveraging historic and cultural attractions such as Jeonju Hanok Village, Gyeonggijeon Shrine, and Jeonju Hyanggyo;
- Night-time tourism strategies that promote overnight stays through initiatives including Hi-Light Jeonju, the Jeonju Cultural Heritage Night, and night markets; and
- The AI Smart Village project, which utilizes artificial intelligence and big data to analyze and manage parking availability and visitor mobility around Jeonju Hanok Village.
Participating cities expressed particular interest in Jeonju’s efforts to enhance its tourism competitiveness by integrating traditional cultural heritage with advanced digital technologies. The seminar also provided an opportunity for participating cities to exchange their own tourism policies and best practices.
Building on the outcomes of the online seminar, Jeonju plans to further strengthen international cooperation in tourism at the 2026 Jeonju Future City Forum, scheduled for 17 September.
Kim Sumi, Director of the International Cooperation Division of Jeonju City, said, “This international online seminar provided a valuable opportunity to introduce Jeonju’s outstanding tourism policies to cities around the world. We will continue to develop Jeonju’s unique tourism strategies and work together with global cities to build a more sustainable tourism destination.”
