Apply Now: The EU Cities Gateway – North America Call is Open!
The EU Cities Gateway – North America (EUCG-NA) is an EU-funded initiative that connects cities and regions (states/provinces/territories) in North America (Canada and the USA) with counterparts cities and regions across the European Union. Building on the legacy of the International Urban and Regional Cooperation programme in North America (IURC-NA), the EUCG-NA empowers local and regional governments to exchange solutions, tackle common challenges, and deliver real urban innovation.

By participating, North American cities or states/provinces/territories can engage in peer-to-peer learning, co-designed pilot projects, take part in study visits, participate in annual international events and join thematic networks focusing on today’s most pressing urban topics. The EU Cities Gateway -NA helps cities and regions turn local ideas into real actions by connecting with peers, resources, and fresh ways to tackle urban challenges.
Who can apply?
This call is open to cities, metropolitan areas, regions, states or provinces in Canada and the USA with more than 100,000 inhabitants (Northern and Arctic regions and territories may apply without this threshold). European cities will participate through a separate joint call for European cities implemented with the International Urban Cooperation (IURC) programs.
What are the main topics?
As a participating city or region, you can cooperate in one of these thematic clusters:
- Nature-based Solutions: Green infrastructure, ecosystem-based resilience, and community-led sustainability.
- Circular Economy: From waste management to resilient food systems and local green business models.
- Digitalization & Urban Innovation: Smart governance, ethical AI, data-driven services, and digital inclusion.
- Affordable and Attainable Housing: Innovative living spaces, urban equity, and livability solutions.
Through these clusters, cities and regions co-create tangible actions that help communities thrive together.
