    ¿Por qué las ciudades son cruciales para una economía circular?

    Las ciudades tienen una alta concentración de recursos, capital, datos y talento repartidos en un área geográfica relativamente pequeña y son centros de centros de innovación. Según la Fundación Ellen MacArthur, para 2050 dos tercios de nosotros viviremos en ciudades, consumiendo 75% de los recursos naturales del mundo, produciendo 50% de desechos mundiales y más de 60% de las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero.

     

    Las ciudades también representan un concentración significativa de poblaciones y actividad productiva humana así como el efectos secundarios negativos generados tales como contaminación y residuos.  Haciendo esto locus de vivienda y actividad productiva más sostenible y circular tendría un impacto sobre todo en la calidad de vida de sus ciudadanos, especialmente los más vulnerables entre ellos. Pero podría tener un un impacto más amplio en el planeta en su conjunto.

     

    El seminario web temático de hoy se centrará en un lugar clave del cambio circular: ciudades. Mientras que algunos gobiernos nacionales siguen rezagados en la acción de desarrollo sostenible, las ciudades han tomado la iniciativa y han implementado una serie de medidas circulares, buscando convertirse en aptos para el siglo XXICiudades y líderes de ciudades de la IURC Examinaremos cómo podemos aprovechar al máximo la riqueza de oportunidades en las ciudades para crear un sistema que pueda trabajar a largo plazo para la economía, la sociedad y el medio ambiente. Los principales expertos de Australia, Finlandia, Indonesia, Malasia y Tailandia de la IURC Asia & Red de Australasia También compartiremos cómo podemos utilizar nuestros recursos actuales para rediseñar las ciudades desde dentro como sistemas vibrantes que operan y proporcionan mejores servicios públicos más eficientemente, mejore cómo se utilizan edificios, reimaginar ciudades alimentarias inteligentes  y proteger el bienestar de los ciudadanos.

     

    Abordar las barreras críticas y los facilitadores de las estrategias de economía circular en las ciudades desbloquea el potencial de la economía circular en las ciudades y requiere coordinación entre personas, políticas y lugares.  Las barreras críticas se derivan de tener que cambiar la mentalidad y los hábitos hacia diferentes vías de producción y consumo, y nuevos modelos de negocio y gobernanza (personas). Requiere un enfoque holístico y sistémico que abarque políticas sectoriales, y un enfoque funcional que va más allá de los límites administrativos de las ciudades y cierra, estrecha y ralentiza los bucles a la escala adecuada (lugares) (OCDE, 2021). Hoy en día, líderes de la ciudad y expertos compartirán recomendaciones sobre cómo Circular City Hubs puede jugar un papel innovador papel en esta transición y cómo las ciudades de IURC Asia & Australasia pueden trabajar con Europa y otras regiones para que esto suceda sobre el terreno.
