On January 25th , IURC Latin America held its eleventh webinar on “Costal Cities & Blue Economy”. The event brought together international experts from Greece, Colombia, and Italy to discuss about the role of Coastal Cities and Blue Economy as a platform to generate social benefits, economic development, and environmental sustainability.

The webinar began with the participation of Olivia Zaina (Economic Development & Innovation Department – Municipality of Genoa),  who talked about Genoa blue district, created to promote innovation and growth oriented urban ecosystems. Her intervention was followed by a presentation about the “Gran Malecón” by Cristina Matos (Experience Manager,  Puerta de Oro Development Company – Barranquilla), who highlighted the importance of generating spaces for social interaction, sustainability, cultural promotion, and economic growth. She provided important insights about Barranquilla’s strategies for sustainable costal development. Theoni Panteli (Department of Entrepreneurship and Blue Growth – Municipality of Piraeus) delivered the last presentation about Piraeus Blue Growth strategy, based on multistakeholder interactions to support sustainable growth in maritime sectors and the development of an innovative, competitive, and resilient Blue Economy hub with international orientation.

Attendees from 14 cities and 9 countries assisted to the webinar.
