Launching a New Era of Cooperation: IURC Latin America & the Caribbean 2025–2027

We were excited to take part in the official launch event of the International Urban and Regional Cooperation (IURC) EU–Latin America & the Caribbean (LAC) 2025–2027 program. This initiative brings together cities and regions from Europe partnering with countries and regions in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and selected Caribbean cities to foster collaboration, knowledge exchange, and long-term partnerships.

Event Highlights:
Welcome Address: Lutz Köppen, Strategic Management, European Commission, Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy.
emphasized the importance of this initiative: 
“This program is a significant step toward strengthening urban and regional cooperation between Europe and Latin America, creating opportunities for shared growth and innovation.”
Program Introduction: Raul Daussa, Team Leader, IURC LAC, introduced the project’s structure and goals: 
“The IURC LAC program is designed to build lasting relationships through clustering sessions, study visits, and collaborative projects. Our focus is on fostering partnerships that drive innovation and sustainable development.”
Network Overviews: Insights on the Network for Cities by Sandra Marín and the Network for Regions by Silke Haarich.

The event also outlined the program’s thematic clusters, implementation timeline, and upcoming activities, including a meeting in Barcelona.
Over 100 participants joined the discussion, marking the start of a vibrant network for city-to-city cooperation.
