The European Commission’s flagship regional-policy magazine Panorama has featured the International Urban and Regional Cooperation (IURC) programme in its latest online edition. The article showcases how IURC connects cities and regions across continents to collaborate on sustainable urban development, innovation, and regional transformation.

The Panorama feature highlights IURC’s growing network of more than 130 participating cities and regions worldwide and underscores the programme’s role in advancing the EU’s international partnerships. It also reports on the IURC Global Thematic Networking Event held in Barcelona in November 2025, where over 240 representatives joined 14 thematic sessions ranging from circular economy and climate action to mobility, housing, and agri-food systems.

The Commission’s article illustrates how IURC’s peer-to-peer approach is generating concrete cooperation results. Examples include food-waste reduction initiatives in Vicenza, mobility solutions explored with Kuala Lumpur, green-energy cooperation opportunities in Sofia, and blue-economy partnerships in Tierra del Fuego.

By being featured in Panorama, the IURC programme gains prominent visibility within the EU’s regional-policy community, reaffirming the importance of city- and region-to-region cooperation in addressing global challenges.
