EU participates at the World Sustainable Development Summit

The Deputy Head of EU’s Foreign Policy Instruments in Asia – Michel Mouchiroud – and Councilor Kamilla Kristensen from the EU Delegation to India participated at the World Sustainable Development Summit. The event was hosted by TERI – The Energy and Resources Institute from India.

The 2021 virtual edition marked 20 years of the Summit platform and included the virtual presence of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi who inaugurated the Summit on Day 1 in the presence of other senior dignitaries who joined us from across the globe. On Day 2, issues of clean energy, biodiversity, and air pollution were discussed across the sessions. Day 3 of WSDS 2021 saw leading speakers such as Mr Alok Sharma, COP26 President and Mr Frans Timmermans, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission responsible for the European Green Deal give special addresses. The Valedictory Address was delivered by Mr Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, Sherpa, G20 Summit. Through its unique virtual nature, the 2021 edition of WSDS brought the whole world together on a single platform. Over the three days, the Summit was able to initiate dialogue on issues of global importance including and not limited to: green finance, industry and energy transitions, clean oceans, air pollution, and climate change.
