Applications are now open for European cities and regions to join the IURC programme activities with Asia, Australia, Latin America and the Caribbean. Apply also to cooperate with North American cities and regions within the EUCG NA programme!

Take this opportunity to become a global partner in shaping sustainable and innovative solutions for cities and regions.

Why Join IURC?

  • The International Urban and Regional Cooperation (IURC) Programme, funded by the EU, promotes city-to-city and region-to-region cooperation for sustainable and innovative urban and regional development.
  • The IURC supports results-oriented partnerships between EU and non-EU subnational authorities. Through thematic workshops, webinars, and advanced cooperation visits, the programme enables local and regional governments to develop and implement pilot projects in collaboration with academic/research institutions, civil society, and business partners—applying the quadruple helix approach.
  • The current phase focuses on key thematic areas such as sustainable mobility, circular economy, climate adaptation, urban innovation, urban regeneration, and clean energy, fostering collaboration of EU pilot cities and regions with counterparts across Asia, Australasia, and Latin America.

Why Join the EUCG?

  • The EU Cities Gateway – North America (EUCG-NA) is an EU-funded programme running from 2025 to 2028, designed to strengthen cooperation between cities and regions in the EU, the U.S., and Canada. Building on the Global Covenant of Mayors in North America and the International Urban and Regional Cooperation (IURC) in North America, EUCG-NA connects local and regional authorities to co-develop practical solutions to shared urban challenges. The focus is on innovation, sustainability, and inclusive development, with an emphasis on real, actionable policy exchange.
  • What sets EUCG-NA apart is its multi-pairing approach, enabling cities and regions to engage with multiple stakeholders to foster richer collaboration, broader learning, and more diverse perspectives. Participants will benefit from thematic networks, peer-to-peer exchange, study visits, networking events and structured consultations involving civil society, academia, and the private sector. A dedicated knowledge base including policy briefs, thematic webinars, and podcasts supports learning and capacity-building. By joining EUCG-NA, cities expand their international partnerships, draw on innovative practices from across the Atlantic, and actively shape the future of urban development.

This is your chance to co-create local pilot projects that deliver global impact, while gaining insights from an international community of innovators.

Activities will start in September 2025.
