Maia and Famalicão visit to Malaysia’s Penang Cities – Circular Economy and World Habitat Day 2022

Categorized as News from Asia & Australasia

A delegation from the Portuguese cities of Maia and Vila Nova de Famalicão held several work meetings in the Penang cities George Town and Seberang Perai from 11 to 16 September 2022. As a result of the mission, three MoUs were signed for cooperation on circular economy and waste management.

The mission was reflected in a video launched by the EU titled “Habitat for Humanity: The Malaysian Story”. The video also highlights the EU-Malaysia cooperation through city-to-city partnerships, featuring the work of Malaysians in creating local environment resource centres, sustainable and smart vanilla farming as well as community retort centres. The video includes statements by officials from Famalicao and Maia, as well as by officials and stakeholders from Penang.

Additional videos on the study visit of the Portuguese cities to Penang can be seen on Facebook and Youtube.

This visit paved the way for the follow-up mission of Seberang Peri to Famalicão in October 2022.
